Airbus Mandala PK-RML

Mandala Airline are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year (2009). In order to increase the service Mandala Airline have added 30 more aircraft from Airbus family-mostly are Airbus A320 which the delivery will be completed in the year 2014. Let’s talk about this airline a bit. Mandala airline was founded in April 17, 1969. The company’s name taken from a military operation called Operation Mandala. This military operation held to unite west papua into the Republic of Indonesia. The airline’s logo is a golden eight-pointed mandala reflecting the eight characters of humanity and the eight elements in Javanese tradition, with a five-petaled lotus in its centre reflecting Indonesia’s five-principled state ideology, Pancasila. The current livery of Mandala Airlines is a eurowhite scheme, comprising of a white fuselage with a blue ‘mandala’ title. The company logo is applied on the tail and the outboard sides of engine nacelles. Among all fleet owned by Mandala there are two unique aircrafts which are registered as PK-RMK and PK-RML. I’ve discussed in my previous post about why these two Airbus A320 aircrafts PK-RMK and PK-RML have a different scheme colour. But actually with this dissimilarity makes these two aircraft become popular, at least for the flight simulator repainters in Indonesia :)

As I promised, this time I have finished my new repaint, PK-RML with 40th anniversary sticker. With the combination of red on the lower body and a ‘mandala’ font writing in the middle of the body I’ve added a 40th year anniversary sticker on the front fuselage, exactly under the cockpit. A320 Mandala PK-RMK

A320 Mandala PK-RMK

In the year 2008, Mandala Air, one of Indonesian domestic flight company arrived several  Airbus A320 plane for adding their fleet. These Airbus A320 are being a part of the regeneration of Mandala’s fleet. The previous Boeings they have such 737-200 and 400 are eliminated from the fleet. More than ten Aircrafts from Airbus Family are serving Mandala Airline’s flight routes right now. One of those A320’s,  is the one which registered as PK-RMK that we gonna discuss here. Just a bit though..

There’s a unique thing can be found on this aircraft with registration PK-RMK. On it’s below fuselage there’s a red colour combination. The same thing if we see the other Mandala’s A320 with registration PK-RML, the only difference on PK-RML is above the red colour combination, from front door to the wings precisely, they put a “Mandala” word written there. And they leave blank for the tail without Mandala’s Logo. According from some resources this aircraft have been leased by Kingfisher Red which formerly known as Air Deccan, One of India’s airline company based in Bangalore, India. So this “Red thing” is belongs to Kingfisher Red before it came to Indonesia. Only Mandala’s company who knows why they let these two aircraft have a different colours from their others aircraft.

By using Wilco Airbus SeriesVol.1 this time Steven Airspace try to make this PK-RMK livery for you. Hopefully I will make that PK-RML in the near future. I must say this Wilco Airbus paintkit is very difficult to use, especially to connect the line between the side fuselage with the bottom fuselage.
